The 2013 Miss USA pageant took place yesterday, Sunday, June 16, 2013, and the gowns were probably great and blah, blah, blah… who watches those pageants, anyways; right? But, as pageants are wont to do, the Question and Answer round is where we found our true breakout star: Miss Utah USA, Marissa Powell.
Miss Utah Answer Is One Big Laugh-Riot
We’re gonna cut right to the chase on this one — watching Miss Utah answer her question is so utterly laughable, it needs no introduction.
Real Housewives of Atlanta star-turned-actress, NeNe Leakes asked Miss Utah:
“A recent report shows that, in 40% of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”
Before answering, Miss Utah, paused, pondering her perfect answer. Then, confident that she had a sure-to-wow answer, she started to speak, and wow, she did:
“I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are [pause] continuing to try to strive to [super-long pause] figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem. And I think, especially the men are… um … seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to … create educate better, so we can solve this problem. Thank you.”

OK, so, we know Miss Utah isn’t the brightest bulb… but is she serious with those earrings? Pageant queens have the worst sense of style. Blech.
WATCH: Miss Teen South Carolina’s Answer — Miss Teen USA 2007
Remember the last time a contestant filled our hearts with glee with nothing but the sheer force of their stupidity?
It was the 2007 Miss Teen USA competition, and it was Miss Teen South Carolina Caitlin Upton’s turn in the Q&A round (note: Caitlin Upton is not to be confused with bikini model extraordinaire, Kate Upton).
Friday Night Lights actress, Aimee Teegarden, asked Miss Upton:
“Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”
Perhaps Miss Teen South Carolina is actually a secret comedic genius, because the response she gave will go down as one of the funniest utterances in human history:
“I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so, because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our e-education, like, such as, in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq — everywhere, like, such as — and I believe that they should… our education over here, in the U.S., should help the U.S., or-or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq [bell rings, indicating her time is up, but Miss Teen South Carolina will NOT be stopped] and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future [Host, Mario Lopez pulls mic away, but again, Miss Teen South Carolina cannot be stopped] for our children.”
Actually, reflecting back on these two nincompoops’ answers, it kinda sounds like Miss Utah thought she was answering Miss Teen South Carolina’s question….
Clearly, Miss Utah 2013 has a point…. our country’s education system needs some real work.
